The new compact Cat wheel loaders of the next generation offer intuitive controls, exemplary comfort and all-round more efficiency.
Munich (KF). The new generation of compact, powerful Cat wheel loaders in the 5 to 7 tonne operating weight class with hydrostatic drive, switchable differential locks, articulated pendulum joint and powerful Z-loading kinematics are characterised by a new drive engine, a redesigned cab and numerous further developments in the tail.
The robust Z-kinematics, controlled by a smooth-running electro-hydraulic multifunction joystick, provide optimum visibility, high lifting and digging forces and automatically guide the load in parallel when stacking. The new Cat C2.8 (Stage V) engine in the three Cat 906, Cat 907 and Cat 908 models with automatic engine shutdown at extended idle for further reduced fuel consumption and the redesigned driveline enable more speed and plenty of rim pull. A variety of hydraulic quick couplers are available, allowing easy use of numerous attachments or the extensive range of attachments available on Cat skid steer loaders, even with high-flow hydraulics.
Top equipment for consistent operator comfort
The new, sealed and pressure-ventilated cab improves operator comfort, while proven features such as suspended pedals and two doors have been retained to facilitate cleaning and access to the cab. Enlarged standard side mirrors, optional electric, heated and aspherical, and optional front and rear view cameras allow safe visibility. New one-piece front and rear windows provide 60% better windscreen coverage. Seat-mounted, swinging controls optimise the ergonomics of the new loaders. A multi-function joystick controls the direction and speed of travel, differential locks and attachments in both dynamic and continuous operation without the operator having to take his hand off the joystick, increasing operator safety.
As with larger Cat wheel loaders, operators can choose from a range of seats, including a new heated and ventilated premium seat. End-of-lift positions can be set using high-resolution in-cab rotary sensors – a first in this class of loader. When the bucket hits the ground or reaches the height stop, the driver and machine are optimally protected from impacts by softly moving into position. The consistent use of this comfort function also saves up to 20% of the bucket cutting edge life.
At the heart of the new cab design is the intuitive 7-inch display, which provides a wealth of operating information and allows many settings to be made. For example, the driver can configure the response of the hydrostatic transmission and the loading hydraulics, the automatic engine idle cut-off and a special creeper mode that allows the optimum setting of attachments regardless of the driving speed. The standard immobiliser secures the new machines against theft or unauthorised use. Air conditioning and fleet management offer further equipment options.
Improved powertrain
The new Cat C2.8 engine delivers the same 55.7 kW (74 hp) gross power as the previous engine, but with 13% more torque, resulting in improved performance and traction. With the Shift-on-the-Go transmission, it offers increased travel speeds up to 40 km/h; larger fuel capacities of 30% on the Cat 906 and 12% on the Cat 907 and Cat 908 provide longer work cycles. When working in dusty environments, the optional reversible fan keeps the radiators cleaner. The frequency and duration of automatic reversing can be conveniently changed by the operator via the new control monitor.
Improved hydraulics and lift height
The hydraulics of the new loaders have been designed to control hydromechanical attachments smoothly and efficiently in any operating situation. Bucket capacities have been increased throughout the range, further enhancing the handling performance of the new generation Cat loaders. The new Cat 908 is also available with a high-lift mast for the special requirements of agriculture, industry and recycling. Equipped with a reversible fan, solid rubber tyres and high-lift mast, the Cat 908 is ideal for these applications.
Efficient, high-intensity LED lighting options are now available for both work/road and engine compartment maintenance lights to better illuminate work areas in low-light conditions. Under-hood LED lighting simplifies maintenance in low ambient light conditions.
