Highlights From Hillhead Digital: Vortex Global Explored Its Titan Series and Loading Solutions Line

Vortex Global exhibited at Hillhead Digital 2021. Vortex representatives discussed products from its Titan Series of slide gates and diverter valves and Loading Solutions line.

The Vortex Titan Series features slide gates and diverters that are engineered for heavy-duty material handling applications. These applications include materials that pose excessive abrasion or wear issues, situations that call for extremely large sized valves/diverters, and conditions that warrant additional considerations that will allow these valves to be as successful as possible in extremely harsh environments.

Vortex Loading Solutions provide fast and steady material flow during the loading of dry/bulk solid materials in open and/or enclosed vessels. Vortex Loading Solutions offer a complete line of telescoping loading spouts, filters, positioners and airslides for loading processes.

More about Vortex

For more than 40 years, Vortex has provided quality slide gates, diverters, iris valves and loading spouts designed specifically for handling dry bulk solids in gravity, vacuum, dilute, or dense phase applications. Vortex valves and spouts are engineered for dependability, durability, easy maintenance, and offer proven solutions to material handling and process efficiency problems. With an in-house team of engineers, Vortex products can be completely customized for individual applications or special installations.

Case histories
Titan Slide Gate Assists at Irish Limestone Quarry

The Vortex Titan Slide Gate is designed to handle abrasive materials in gravity-fed applications. Twenty-four gates were ordered to be installed on the discharges of 24 new silos.

Because of the smaller particle size present in the application, the abrasive-resistant blades were surface ground to a 30 RA finish and the gates were equipped with an additional fine material bonnet seal.
Gates were manufactured with a custom bolt-hold pattern to match silo outlets.

The Vortex-manufactured aluminum, pneumatic cylinders were epoxy coated to combat the local, salt-air environment.

Loading Spouts Handling Industrial Sand in the US

In this application, Vortex Loading Spouts are used by a rail transload facility for the loading of industrial sand. The 355 mm (14in) spouts are attached to Vortex dual axis positioners. The positioners allow total movement of the spout .30m (1ft) in four different directions from the center allowing it to traverse from front-to-back and side-to-side above a loading vessel.

Located above each spout are compact, in-line filtration systems. These systems are designed to capture fugitive dust created during the loading process. Once the loading process begins, the attached blower draws up fugitive dusts as they are emitted by the material flow stream. Once arriving at the in-line filtration system, the fugitive dusts are captured in a series of pleated polyester filter cartridges. Throughout the loading process, automatic reverse pulse jets introduce compressed air to purge the captured dusts back into the load. Thus, the in-line filtration system is designed to minimize product loss and prevent dusting to the atmosphere.
