[Job Story] Dynapac Mat Tracker Tool Ensures Safety During a Lane Reparation During the Traffic

Dynapac is part of the governmental pilot project ASR 5.2. In Bad Berleburg on the B480, Dynapac showed their system to the authorities of NRW. The ASR 5.2 tries to solve the problem of one lane reparation while full traffic is running in the other lanes. The idea is to keep the screed personnel out of the risky areas and to avoid a full closure of the road, which would cause a city traffic collapse in many cases.

Malte Stehl, Head of Machine Technology at Heitkamp Erd- und Straßenbau, Herne, and his team examined various possible solutions and decided on a Dynapac SD2500CS paver with MatTracker.
Project manager Sonja Koch and Christian Buschhorn from Straßen.NRW put out this pilot project to protect road construction workers in accordance with ASR 5.2. Dynapac’s “Mat Tracker” tool ensures safe and precise automatic screed control, perfect edges, and safe working.

The Mat Tracker is an optical “edge following system” that automatically regulates the working width of the screed by recognizing the curb or edge. The operator does not move in the dangerous area of oncoming traffic and can still optimally support the installation. Using the infrared camera (NIR), the operator can locate the existing edges, and automatically regulates the working width of the paver via the control of the screed.

No pedestrians are required, several centimeters of the work surface are saved and nobody is on the side is facing the traffic.

The pilot project is now completed, well in time. Dynapac’s “Mat Tracker” tool ensured safe and precise automatic screed control, edges, and safe working.
