Egyptian heavy haulage and crane contractor, The Specialized Contracting Company CRANES, based in Cairo, has one of the largest fleets of mobile and crawler cranes in the region. It recently bought a used LR 1400/2 crawler crane direct from manufacturer Liebherr. The 400-tonne crawler crane has already proven its worth after completing its first few jobs.
The recently purchased crawler crane is the second LR 1400/2 in the company’s fleet. It adds to the top end of the fleet, the largest crane in which is a Liebherr LR 1650 with a maximum lifting capacity of 650 tonnes. Company owner Sayed El Dibiky explains:
“We wanted to buy the LR 1400/2 from Liebherr because we are sure that we will receive the best quality used crane if we buy direct from the manufacturer. The 400-tonner is ideal for the requirements of current heavy-duty projects in Egypt.”
Another major factor behind the decision was that Liebherr’s used LR 1400/2 was equipped with a complete luffing fly jib and a derrick system with a counterweight trailer. This will enable The Specialized Contracting Company CRANES to use the LR 1400/2 with a great deal of flexibility. It will mainly be used in power plant construction, wind farms and bridges for the new motorway network.
The Specialized Contracting Company CRANES has a workforce of over 200 and a fleet comprising a total of 45 cranes. Sayed El Dibiky says: “A large proportion of our crane fleet comes from Liebherr. We have had very good experience with this manufacturer.
Another reason that we bought another Liebherr crane is the good after-sales service provided by the Liebherr representatives in Egypt’s, DAM Group Trading Company S.A.E.”
The LR 1400/2 has now managed to prove its worth by completing several projects, including the construction of Suez Canal tunnels in Port Said and the expansion of the West Cairo power plant.
