Townsville City Council crews are continuing to restore beaches across the city following the unprecedented monsoon.
Works to improve access to Pallarenda beach and to replenish sand on the beach dunes will begin from tomorrow and continue until Friday.
Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Cr Les Walker said the restoration of Townsville’s environment is crucial for recovery.
“Townsville is lucky to have such an amazing natural environment and the monsoon has impacted it significantly,” Cr Walker said.
“Council staff have been working in a number of areas to restore these environments – in particular erosion management on our beaches and waterways.”
Community Health and Environment Committee Chair and local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said restoring access to Pallarenda for the public is an important step in recovery.
“The heavy rain washed out a lot of sand from the beaches and the access paths and our crews have been working hard to restore them,” Cr Greaney said.
“Pallarenda is a much-loved beach and these works will ensure it is safe for the public to access the beach.”
